After roasting chestnuts on an open fire and getting the children (if you have them) all snug in their beds, you can setting down to hack a gnome with Ed Skoudis and friends.
SANS and Counter Hack have given us a wonderful 8 bit retro multiplayer game that has been integrated into this year’s annual hacking challenge. The heavily customized and modified BrowserQuest based game really adds to the overall “Gnome in Your Home” story line.
You join the adventure with Jessica and Joshua Dosis as they investigate the holiday hit toy “Gnome in Your Home” that their father was lucky enough to get them.
The challenge is broken into five parts:

- I’ll be Gnome for Christmas: Firmware Analysis for Fun and Profit
- Let it Gnome! Let it Gnome! Let it Gnome!: Internet-Wide Scavenger Hunt
- There’s No Place Like Gnome for the Holidays: Gnomage Pwnage
- Baby, It’s Gnome Outside: Sinister Plot and Attribution
As you explore the Dosis’ neighborhood you can meet the Counter Hack team in game and they will give you hints and tips to crack these challenges.
